Please see the following important message by our neighbors at Mayan Hands:
We hope that all of you and your families are doing well and staying strong at these most challenging times. Every year at this time, we get ready for our big fair-trade sale at B’nai Sholom. This sale, and all of our local holiday sales are a lifeline for our artisan partners in Guatemala, even more so now that they are on a strict lockdown because of COVID-19 and find it difficult to provide for their families. Unfortunately, we can’t have a sale in person this year. We will miss it as we so have enjoyed sharing our stories and products with you. Through several years you have supported our artisan partners. More than purchasing a beautiful handcrafted item, you have helped them transcend extreme poverty, gain a voice in their communities, protect their environment and continue living within the cultural traditions they cherish. Because they are earning a fair return for their work, their children can attend school and will have a brighter future.
In lieu of a holiday sale at the synagogue, please consider going to our website, www.mayanhands.org, or the website of The Women’s Peace Collection, www.womenspeacecollection.com where you can find everything you have seen in previous years and more, and buy gifts for your family and loved ones. There are a lot of lovely new products! Through your fair trade purchases, you will continue partnering with these hardworking and talented women, help them to feed their families and bring dignity and hope to their communities.
