Sacred Text study is open and welcoming to all. There are two components:
- Study and lively discussion of the current weekly Torah text led by various members of the group three Saturdays a month, from 9:30 AM to about 11:00 AM. No special expertise is required; questions and comments are encouraged. Newcomers are always welcome.
- Monthly Extended Text Study of books beyond the Torah, led by Rabbi Cashman, is generally the first Saturday of each month (check the calendar to verify which Saturday, as there are occasional changes), running from 9:30 AM to about noon. Bagels, coffee, and other goodies are provided by members of the group on a “pot-luck” basis. Currently the group is studying Job. The longer session allows for in-depth study of text, context, history, and commentaries. As always, everyone is welcome to attend these sessions, and dozens of people regularly join the circle for fascinating discussions and delicious food.
- There is a special yearly Extended Study observance the first Saturday in February: Ice Cream for Breakfast day, with a frosty selection of ice cream and toppings. 2017 will mark the 12th year we’ve participated in this light-hearted, international holiday. Who can resist?
